wave pic 1Mark your calendar for the upcoming Ocean Renewable Energy Conference, to be held September 15th- 16th, 2009 in the beautiful resort town of Seaside, Oregon.  This year’s conference, hosted by the Oregon Wave Energy Trust, will bring together local, national and international renewable and wave energy leaders to continue the conversation about how to responsibly develop the emerging wave energy industry in Oregon, the United States and around the world.

Participants at this year’s conference will include stakeholders representing the full spectrum of wave energy project development – from early-stage community engagement to deployment and energy generation – including project developers, coastal community leaders, utilities, academia, state and federal regulators, researchers and others.

This event is being hosted by the Oregon Wave Energy Trust (OWET).  With members from fishing and environmental groups, industry and government – OWET is a nonprofit public-private partnership funded by the Oregon Innovation Council in 2007. Its mission is to serve as a connector for all stakeholders involved in wave energy project development – from research and development to early stage community engagement and final deployment and energy generation – positioning Oregon as the North America leader in this nascent industry and delivering its full economic and environmental potential for the state. OWET’s goal is to have ocean wave energy producing 2 megawatts of power – enough to power about 800 homes – by 2010 and 500 megawatts of power by 2025.

Adding to the appeal of this conference is its location of Seaside, Oregon.  Seaside is heralded as the Northwest’s most popular ocean resort for over a century.  Located just 90 minutes from Portland,  Seaside boasts a 1.8 mile ocean front promenade with spectacular views, miles of public beach, outdoor activities, shopping and great dining.

The 2009  Ocean Renewable Energy Conference IV is a must attend event for all those interested in Ocean Power.
