NOAA’s Next Generation Strategic Plan: You can Participate!
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Next Generation Strategic Plan will reassess and define the mission, vision, and goals that will drive their work and partnerships for the next 25 years. By planning now and focusing their resources for the coming years, NOAA will be able respond to the rapid changes that are occurring in our environment, economy, and society. NOAA’s Plan will respond directly to the nation’s most important long-term challenges and opportunities and will be based on suggestions from experts in NOAA and from their large stakeholder community (this includes you!).
This is your chance to be heard. Please take the time to let NOAA know your concerns for the ocean environment, whether they are derived from your professional experience or personal passion for this important resource. Iwould encourage you to read the three possible scenarios for the future that were developed as a planning tool by multi-disciplinary panels at NOAA in the fall of 2008. They are truly an eye-opener and a crucial element in devising a long term plan.
NOAA is asking you to go to http://www.ppi.noaa.gov/ngsp.html and answer three questions about NOAA’s future:
- What trends will shape our future?
- What will be the biggest challenges or opportunities will we face?
- What should NOAA strive to accomplish?
NOAA wants you to know that you can and will make a difference in the scope and magnitude of the strategic choices NOAA will make, and the consequent benefits that NOAA can bring to society. Please take the time to view a brief video on their Next Generation Strategic Plan, below.
