Update: Sunken Oil Rig in Gulf of Mexico Oozing 42,000 Gallons of Oil Per Day, Will Take Months to Fix

Update:  The Deepwater Horizon oil rig which exploded into flames on April 20th and sank in the Gulf of Mexico on April 23rd, is currently leaking oil at a rate of 42,000 barrels per day.  The platform was operated by Transcocean of Houston for BP. BP is in charge of cleanup. Executive Doug Suttles said if remote-control equipment can’t stop the oil, engineers are working on a way to put a containment dome over the leak.”   If this does not work they may have to drill nearby wells to stem the  leak.  In any event, Mr. Suttles has indicated that it appears that it will take several months to stop oil from leaking in to the Gulf.
